These data were used by the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology to develop the Health Information Exchange (HIE) funding formula from a technical basis. The total number of primary care physicians by state ("Primary Care Physicians") is the least amount of data needed to create the calculations for the HIE funding model.
The data from the Robert Graham Center were used to calculate the PCP population component of the equity funding for the state HIE grants. The PCP component was 40% of the total equity funding and was allocated proportionally by each state’s PCP population.
