Innovations in Primary Care Residency Education

Topic Overview

Calls to radically reinvent primary care graduate medical education to provide care in the Patient Centered Medical Home resulted in a number of practical experiments within the three primary care disciplines. These experiments, such as the P4 initiative in Family Medicine, R3P3 in Pediatrics, and EIP in Internal Medical, represented the first serious reconsideration of the structure, length, and content of primary care residencies in decades.  In this Forum, leaders from each of these initiatives will present on early findings and lessons learned, and on policy considerations for their expansion beyond the early adopters of primary care residency transformation.
